"those who are rightly disposed for everlasting life'' it sounds pretty if weightless of substance; it qualifies as an example of what "vapid" describes: " Offering nothing that is stimulating or challenging, i.e. "tuneful but vapid musical comedies".

The JW life is good!
by Julia Orwell infor some people.
i think of the old man who has no family and lives in a nursing home, and the only time he gets out is when he's picked up for the meetings.
he lives solely for that.. or people who love routine and busy-ness, people who need to be led.. george orwell wrote that the party is best able to impose its worldview on those least likely to understand what it is that's being asked of them: orthodoxy is unconsciousness.. i believe a lot of jws swallow the party line and it passes through them unharmed, like a seed pooped out by a bird.

Is this true? Don't Call 911 If The Guy In The Next Seat Falls Ill at The DC?
by Room 215 inthis from a recent thread: .
"recent ridiculous instructions about not calling 9-1-1 yourself at district conventions if someone is having a heart attack but, instead, telling an attendant, who is supposed to let the first aid department know so they can come and assess the person and then call the paramedics.".
i hadn't heard this before.... sadly, it seems in perfectly in character for them.

This from a recent thread:
"recent ridiculous instructions about not calling “9-1-1” yourself at district conventions if someone is having a heart attack but, instead, telling an attendant, who is supposed to let the first aid department know so they can come and assess the person and then call the paramedics."
I hadn't heard this before.... sadly, it seems in perfectly in character for them. Have you also heard this?

'They really do follow the maxim "better to say nothing and have people think you a fool rather than open your mouth and remove all doubt"..... That's why any sort of participation in a moderated public forum, or granting of interviews to the press, etc. is anathema to them.

The new light re 1919 appointment of FDS demolishes the 'one true religion' concept
by yadda yadda 2 inanother poster on here called separation of powers made a profound comment on another thread recently that i thought was worthy of starting a new thread about:.
"in my opinion, the new light regarding the fds addresses this question, if there was no fds from the 3rd century on until 1918, and yet the article states that there were anointed followers here and there during that almost 2000 years of no fds, then what organization did they follow?
there was no organization, yet they were anointed per the article.

I thought the old buggers really "jumped the shark" with their "overlapping generations" daydream; but this July 15 WT takes the prize.

Here comes Baruch again
by stillin insomehow this weeks book study, which covered some more about baruch, managed to turn it into a slam against education or trying to improve yourself very much.
ok, he didn't "seek great things for himself.
" but to twist that into the diatribe against college education, under the pretense of a bible study, is simply appallingly irresponsible!

JULY 15th Study Watchtower - NEW LIGHT IS FANTASY
by The Searcher inthe july 15 study watchtower uses all 4 study articles to try to inculcate into every witnesses' mind that the governing body is indisputably god's sole channel of communication on earth.
to do so, it uses a multitude of scriptures along with seriously flawed un-inspired reasoning.
the foundation stone of this watchtower's blatant agenda is the claim that when jesus used only a few to dispense the physical food to the many, he was setting a principle which would be applied to the distribution of spiritual food after he returned to heaven.

" The GB clearly doesn't do it all - they just have oversight of it. "....
I don't believe that when it comes to actual writing of articles, they don't do ANY of it.... not one of these guys has "scholar" on his resume'.... they're all a bunch of former itinerant DOs brought in to Bethel and groomed for the job (whatever that means). Not one of them has anything approaching the stature -- or gravitas, etc. of -- Franz and Knorr, not to mention Ray Franz, Ed Dunlap, Karl Adams, or any of the other "heavies" of the '50s and '60s.

"The only result I will not accept is losing my wife and children.
I won't leave her in a burning building because she doesn’t realize
it is on fire. I would have little influence from the outside. Im
unsure what course I will take but I know it will take some time,
because the roots are very deep , and there are few things more
powerful than familial approval."C.O.B.E, Very, VERY well said; thanks, I can certainly relate. Except that I've already "stepped down" as an elder, I'm wearing precisely the same shoes.

Can losing faith in God be a disfellowshipping offense?
by Emery ini have been pondering this question for awhile.
say a person during a shepherding visit with the elders were to simply state that they had lost their faith in god because of the subject of suffering-- would the elders still have grounds to disfellowship them even if the person did not actually commit a sinful offense?
instead of diving into all the errors, false prophecies, and lies advanced by the organization can somebody simply say, "i have lost faith in jehovah" and walk away without being publically denounced?

The sad reality is that it all depends on the whims of the local elders and their reaction to your stated misgivings; basically, they can DF anyone on any pretext whatever, and leave them to the mercy of an appeal committee, which more often than not, is loathe to overturn.

The Experts- Jehovahs Witnesses
by jean-luc picard ini was thinking this weekend of a brother i first met when i was a teenager.. not yet an elder, this brother was very outspoken, and was viewed a kind of hero to the r&f.. an inexperienced teen, i also believed ( influenced by others) that this guy was a godsend.. looking back, with the eyes of a more mature person, i now consider him an arrogant self opinionated bully.. he later became an elder and i might add that he also had an imposing physical appearance .
but he had no education.
no schooling.

Julia, you have a point: what is remotely humble about a people convinced they're the only ones worth saving, while God vaporizes the other 99.99 percent of humanity, down to the last pudgy infant?
